Dipolar excitonic quantum wires at atomically sharp lateral interfaces
Researchers created one-dimensional quantum matter at atomically sharp interfaces between MoSe2 and WSe2 monolayers. They found interfacial excitons confined to 3 nm scales with large dipole moments. By applying electrostatic doping, they dynamically tuned the exciton's structure, collapsing its dipole moment and reducing its lifetime by 20-fold. This demonstrates a scalable method for engineering 1D quantum systems.
