Nature of magnetism in bilayer nickelate La3Ni2O7 single crystals
Neutron scattering studied La3Ni2O7 single crystals to resolve its spin order and dynamics. The results revealed a stripe-type magnetic ground state driven by competing interactions and strong interlayer coupling, characterized by a 5 meV spin gap. This dense spectrum of mid-energy magnetic fluctuations is proposed as the key mechanism for unconventional superconductivity.
