JWST reveals a highly ionized nebula powered by an ultraluminous X-ray source with a massive black hole in the metal-poor galaxy Holmberg II
JWST observations of a metal-poor galaxy revealed that an accreting black hole powering an ultraluminous X-ray source creates an extremely ionized nebula around it. The study found that this gas exhibits a clear structure based on ionization potential, suggesting anisotropic escape of ionizing radiation and linking the highly ionized regions to past jet activity.
