Band Tail States: Speed Bump or End of the Road for Two-Dimensional Semiconductors?
Band tail states (BTS) cause reduced mobility and slow transistor turn-on in monolayer 2D transistors. These tails, arising from disorder and electron-phonon coupling, limit energy efficiency by requiring excessive gate voltage for operation. Mitigation strategies like strain engineering or using bilayer materials are proposed to reduce the BTS energy spread below 50 meV.
