EK Cha b: multi-tracer detection of a protoplanet candidate in a gas-rich environment
Researchers detected EK Cha b, a new protoplanet candidate around a young M star, using multiple observational tracers like CO emission, millimeter continuum, and broadband photometry. The detection revealed a spectrally resolved footprint matching the CO J=2–1 line and kinematic consistency with a circumplanetary disk. This finding shows that planet formation around low-mass stars is accessible with current technology.
