Energetics of Fault-Tolerant Spin-Qubit Quantum Computation

The study evaluates the power and energy needs of a Loss-DiVincenzo spin-qubit quantum computer using algorithms like QFT compared to classical FFT. It finds that quantum computing can be energetically competitive at smaller problem sizes than execution time, and cryoelectronic optimizations can reduce power consumption by two orders of magnitude, projecting a 1 million qubit system to use only about 100 kW.
