Identity-Based Signing Shifts, Not Solves, Usability: Evidence from Five Identity-Based Signing Ecosystems
The study analyzed developer reports across five identity-based software signing tools to see how usability issues change over time. Findings show that while these tools reduce key management burdens, complexity shifts to policy configuration and workflow integration. Usability problems concentrate at architectural boundaries like CLI tooling and verification workflows, suggesting design focus should be on these areas.
