Plasmon Collapse in a Directional Strange Metal
The study investigated electronic charge dynamics in MoOCl2, a metal exhibiting an orthogonal dichotomy between coherent Fermi liquid behavior and incoherent strange metal response along different crystal axes. Researchers found that while one direction supported a well-defined plasmon, the other showed an overdamped excitation that collapses into a broad continuum above a critical momentum ($q_c$). This reveals intrinsic momentum and energy scales governing incoherent charge fluctuations beyond traditional quasiparticle descriptions.
