Epistemic Substitution: How Grokipedia's AI-Generated Encyclopedia Restructures Authority
This study compared Wikipedia and Grokipedia to see how AI-generated encyclopedias shift authority. It found that Grokipedia replaces academic sources with user-generated content and NGO reports, especially in politics. This 'epistemic substitution' means the source of knowledge changes fundamentally, requiring auditing to understand these algorithmic shifts.
