Vanishing ordered moment in the frustrated triangular lattice antiferromagnet CuNdO 2

CuNdO2 has long-range antiferromagnetic order at 0.78 K, but neutron diffraction shows no magnetic peaks, suggesting a vanishing dipole moment. This is explained by the strong Ising character of Nd3+ moments on the triangular lattice causing frustration. Frustration is relieved when the smaller in-plane component of these moments orders into a 120-degree structure with a nearly zero net ordered moment.
