Sub-Millisecond Reflexes for Continuous Physical Human-Robot Interaction

The research developed an open-source, sub-millisecond reflex engine for robots to adapt control behavior instantly during physical human interaction without stopping tasks. By replacing slow ROS 2 switching with lock-free pointer operations, the system achieves switching delays under 0.1 ms. This allows the robot to execute rapid safety responses and maintain continuous operation during contact events.
