High-capacity associative memory in a quantum-optical spin glass

Researchers experimentally demonstrated associative memory in a driven-dissipative spin glass made of atoms and photons. This system achieved a high storage capacity, surpassing the Hopfield limit by up to seven-fold in a sixteen-spin network. The enhancement is due to cavity cooling and position-dependent couplings that mimic short-term synaptic plasticity, suggesting a precursor to learning in quantum systems.
