Emergence of spin-orbit coupling among spin, atomic orbital, and Bloch dynamics in Janus double-transition-metal MXenes

The study investigated spin-orbit coupling in Janus double-transition-metal MXenes (Mo2HfC2OS and W2HfC2OS) to find an unconventional correlation between spin, orbital, and Bloch dynamics. This coupling creates a staggered trigonal spin pattern around the Γ point near the insulating gap, which is qualitatively different from standard couplings like LS or Rashba forms.
