Orientation-resolved tunnel spectroscopy of a triplet superconductor

Researchers investigated whether a weakly correlated noncentrosymmetric superconductor, Nb18Re82, possesses a mixed-parity superconducting state. Using orientation-resolved scanning tunneling spectroscopy, they found a substantial spin-triplet contribution alongside an even spin-singlet component. This demonstrates that intrinsic antisymmetric spin-orbit coupling can foster significant triplet superconductivity even in weakly correlated materials.
