Mitigating the barren plateau problem in linear optics
The paper addresses barren plateaus in linear optics for variational quantum algorithms by introducing a dual-valued phase shifter (DVPS). This non-linear component creates cost landscapes with fewer local minima, making optimization robust against problem changes. Fermionic statistics are shown to be less susceptible to these issues than bosonic statistics, offering a pathway for practical photonic quantum computing.
