Classification of Spontaneous and Scripted Speech for Multilingual Audio
The study tested different AI models to tell if speech is spontaneous or scripted across 11 languages using a large podcast dataset. Transformer-based models, especially Whisper, proved superior to older feature-based methods. These advanced models achieved state-of-the-art results for distinguishing speech styles despite being less interpretable.
