Prominence: A discriminator of gravitational wave signals
The paper introduces Prominence ($\mathcal{P}$), a measure from topography, to discriminate between different gravitational wave (GW) sources like first-order phase transitions, domain walls, and cosmic strings. $\mathcal{P}$ quantifies how much a GW peak rises above its surrounding background noise. It shows that $\mathcal{P}$ can distinguish these cosmological signals even when their absolute amplitudes and frequencies are the same, offering a powerful tool for analyzing LISA and ET data.
